Evidently, I talked about finishing the quilting on the Fugly Fairies quilt, way back in episode 29, but I totally forgot to post a picture. Sorry guys! I took some extra close ups to make it up to you. A couple people, Jaye and Kati, have asked where it is. So here it is, in all its un-glory.. I need to bind it and give it away. It’s either going to my mom, who said she’d like to have it, or to my daughter who also expressed some deranged interest in this ugly thing. Things started going wrong from the very start of this quilt. I love all the people who contributed blocks to this fairy swap, my Lallyquilters, but I am just not fond of how these blocks play, or don’t play, together. I did try to balance the darker blocks by placing them in opposing corners. I am not sure it helped at all.I think the thing I am most regretful about is using that backing. I feel like it was a waste, because I love the backing, and I’m not crazy about this front of the quilt. I wish I had saved this backing for a quilt I like more.. like maybe.. hmm something in blue and white
To recap the details, this quilt has a mix of hand and machine quilting because I used it for practice. There’s a wide variety of machine quilting fillers used here too. I should try to find something to like about this.. so I suppose I do like the texture. It’s heavily quilted and I used a high loft polyester batting. It’s light, and thick, and fluffy.
